What 100,000 streams is worth to an independent artist

100,000 streams is where the money becomes noticeable, but it is not a living. To earn rent of $1,500 a month from Spotify alone you would need about 300,000 to 500,000 streams every month, with a 0% distributor cut.

The range is $200 wide because two things you do not control move it: which countries your listeners are in, and how many of them pay for Premium. An audience mostly on Premium in high-paying markets sits near the top; a young, mostly free audience near the bottom.

If the 100k arrived suddenly

A fast jump with few saves can be a sign of artificial streaming, even when you did nothing wrong. Spotify charges labels and distributors per track when it detects flagrant artificial streaming, and distributors report the charge as EUR 10 per flagged track per month (TuneCore support). Read your numbers in the artificial streams check before you count on the money.

100,000 Spotify streams by listener country

Spotify pays from a separate pool in each country, so the same streams pay differently depending on where your listeners are. We only have named, dated figures for two countries: 100,000 streams from listeners in the United States pay about $390, and from listeners in Portugal about $180 (Ditto Music). Each is one figure from one source, so treat both as a guide.

For India, South Africa, Nigeria, the Philippines, the UK and everywhere else we have not found a per-country figure we can quote, so we do not give one. Your real audience is a mix of countries anyway: check where your listeners are in Spotify for Artists, and use the worldwide range unless most of them are in one of the countries above.
