Do you have to disclose AI on YouTube?
YouTube expects AI use to be disclosed. Disclosure in our table: Required.
- YouTube says it encourages responsible use of AI generation tools, and disclosure alone does not limit a video's audience.
- Creators must disclose realistic altered or synthetic content in YouTube Studio. YouTube lists AI music that is the main focus of the video as an example.
- Creators who keep skipping disclosure may get a label added by YouTube and other penalties.

Money: monetisation and stores
- Since July 15, 2025 the monetisation rule on repetitive content is called inauthentic content. AI content made with generic templates that looks mass-produced is not eligible for monetisation.
- YouTube has no public Content ID rule just for AI music. Content ID eligibility is set by the rights rules, and many distributors set their own AI limits for Content ID.

How YouTube's rules fit with your distributor's
Most artists do not upload to YouTube directly: a distributor delivers the song. That means two sets of AI rules apply. The distributor decides whether it will deliver an AI song at all, and to which stores, and YouTube then applies its own rules once the song is there. Check both before you plan a release, and keep the date you checked.
Rules change fast. Our verdict for YouTube: Allowed with disclosure, checked 15 October 2026. Before a release that depends on it, read the linked source yourself. Not legal advice.
