What Spotify's AI policy says
Spotify does not ban AI music. Its rules target three things instead: voice clones made without permission, spam uploads, and profiles that present an AI-generated person as human.
- Spotify says it supports artists' freedom to use AI creatively while fighting misuse by content farms.
- Music delivered to another artist's profile, including AI-generated music, can be reported as a mismatch.

- A spam filter tags uploaders and tracks using spam tactics and stops recommending them.
Voice clones and sound-alikes on Spotify
Not allowed unless the impersonated artist has authorised the use of their voice.

How Spotify's rules fit with your distributor's
Most artists do not upload to Spotify directly: a distributor delivers the song. That means two sets of AI rules apply. The distributor decides whether it will deliver an AI song at all, and to which stores, and Spotify then applies its own rules once the song is there. Check both before you plan a release, and keep the date you checked.
Rules change fast. Our verdict for Spotify: Allowed, checked 15 October 2026. Before a release that depends on it, read the linked source yourself. Not legal advice.
Questions artists ask
Can you upload AI music to Spotify?
Yes. Spotify says it supports artists' freedom to use AI creatively, and you upload AI songs the same way as any other song, through a distributor. Your distributor's own AI rules decide whether the song gets delivered.
Does Spotify remove AI-generated songs?
Spotify has no rule that removes a song only because AI made it. It acts on voice clones made without the copied artist's permission, on spam tactics (its spam filter stops recommending those uploads), and on music delivered to the wrong artist's profile.
Do I have to label AI music on Spotify?
No. AI credits are optional and in beta. They mark which part of a track was made with AI, such as vocals or instrumentals, and you add them through your distributor, not in Spotify for Artists.
What is the AI Persona badge on Spotify?
A label for artist profiles that present an AI-generated photorealistic person. Spotify says it is about the identity you present, not whether you use AI to make the music. Music from AI Personas is left out of editorial and personalised recommendations unless a listener engages with the artist, for example by following them.
Can I release a song with an AI voice that sounds like a famous singer?
Only with that artist's permission. Spotify says vocal impersonation is only allowed when the impersonated artist has authorised it.
Can AI songs be pitched to Spotify editorial playlists?
Spotify's AI pages do not ban pitching AI-made songs. The one stated limit is for AI Persona profiles, whose music is not included in editorial or personalised recommendations.
