What Apple Music's AI policy says
Apple has not published an AI music page for artists that we could read. Everything below comes from press reports of Apple's messages to labels and distributors, so treat the wording as reported, not quoted from Apple.
In Apple Music's own words
Track: "AI was used to generate a material portion of a sound recording." ... Apple "will now require AI transparency tags for new content delivered to the platform."— 9to5Mac: Apple Music introduces metadata tags to disclose AI-generated content, checked 15 October 2026 (third-party source)
Do you have to disclose AI on Apple Music?
Apple Music expects AI use to be disclosed. Disclosure in our table: Required.
- Apple introduced four Transparency Tags in March 2026: Artwork, Track, Composition (including lyrics) and Music Video.
- A tag applies when AI was used to generate a material portion of that part of the release. Apple leaves partners to decide what counts as AI content.
- You do not set the tags in Apple Music yourself: your distributor or label sends them with the release.
- Press reports an August 2026 email to partners saying the tags are now required and will show to listeners as Made With AI labels by the end of 2026.
- Apple has not said publicly what happens if a release skips the tag.

Money: monetisation and stores
Apple Music has not published an AI-specific rule on monetisation that we could find, so its normal payout and rights rules apply.

These points come from press, search snippets or pages we could not read in full. We are re-checking them by hand.
- Apple's own wording of the Transparency Tags rule: the partner email and delivery spec could not be read (spec page needs JavaScript). All wording comes from press quoting the email.
- Whether the tags are mandatory now: press says yes from August 2026, while reports say the public delivery spec still calls the metadata optional.
- Launch date of listener-facing Made With AI labels.
How Apple Music's rules fit with your distributor's
Most artists do not upload to Apple Music directly: a distributor delivers the song. That means two sets of AI rules apply. The distributor decides whether it will deliver an AI song at all, and to which stores, and Apple Music then applies its own rules once the song is there. Check both before you plan a release, and keep the date you checked.
Rules change fast. Our verdict for Apple Music: Allowed with disclosure, checked 15 October 2026. Before a release that depends on it, read the linked source yourself. Not legal advice.
Questions artists ask
Can you upload AI music to Apple Music?
