Spotify Canvas size converter and checker

A Spotify Canvas must be 3 to 8 seconds long, vertical 9:16, between 720 and 1080 px tall, and an MP4 or JPG file, says Spotify's Canvas guidelines page. Drop your clip above: we check each rule, then crop, trim or loop, drop the sound and export an MP4 in your browser.

Spotify Canvas Converter runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded.

Spotify's own upload error page is blunt about precision: if the length or size is even slightly off, the upload can fail. A clip that your phone calls 8 seconds can be 8.03 seconds in the file. That is why the checker shows two decimals, and why the converter exports an 8 second Canvas as 7.97 seconds (239 frames at 30 frames a second).

How to use the converter

  1. Drop your video. The checker reads its length, width, height, type and file size with your browser's own video player. Nothing is uploaded.
  2. Fix what failed. Drag the preview to choose the 9:16 crop, or pick Fit with blurred edges for a landscape clip.
  3. Pick a start point and a length from 3 to 8 seconds. Short clips repeat, or use Rebound, which plays forward then back.
  4. Make the MP4 and download it. There is no watermark and no sign-up.
  5. Upload it in Spotify for Artists: open Music, pick the track, then Add Canvas. Spotify says you can add a Canvas to any track, including upcoming releases.

Which browsers make an MP4

The converter encodes H.264 video frame by frame with WebCodecs and packs it into an MP4. Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can do this. In a browser without it, the tool records the preview in real time instead: Safari and recent Chrome give an MP4 that way, but some browsers can only make WebM. Spotify asks for MP4 or JPG, so when that happens the tool says so plainly and points you to a Still Canvas or another browser. It never hands you a file Spotify will refuse without telling you.

What the checker cannot see

Spotify's content rules are about what is in the picture, so read them yourself. The Canvas content policy says to avoid sending people to websites, ticket sellers or social media follows, and not to promote brands, including Spotify's logo. The guidelines add: avoid rapid cuts or intense flashing, and keep key details off the edges, because some phones cut them off.

Planning the release too? The music release planner puts Canvas a week before release day, alongside the Spotify pitch deadline and the rest of the list.

Questions artists ask

What size is a Spotify Canvas?

Vertical 9:16 and between 720 and 1080 px tall, according to Spotify's Canvas guidelines. At 1080 px tall that is about 608 x 1080.

How long can a Spotify Canvas be?

3 to 8 seconds. Spotify notes an upload can fail if the length is even slightly off, so 7.9 seconds is safer than a clip that rounds to 8.

Can I upload a MOV file as a Canvas?

Spotify's pages list MP4 or JPG only. Convert the MOV to MP4 with the tool above, if your browser can play it.

Is 1080 x 1920 allowed for Canvas?

Spotify's page says between 720 and 1080 px tall, and 1920 is taller than that. Scale it to 608 x 1080 or smaller.

Does a Canvas need sound?

Spotify's guidelines suggest footage without talking, singing or rapping. Our export has no audio track at all.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted inside your browser and never leaves your device.

Why did my Canvas upload fail?

Spotify's help says to check the specs and try the Spotify for Artists mobile app, reinstalling it if you already use it. Run the checker above to see which rule is off.
