Spotify monthly listeners calculator: streams, followers and money
Monthly listeners are everyone who played your music in the last 28 days. Spotify pays a share of a monthly pool, not a per-stream rate, so any payout is an estimate. At the $0.003 to $0.005 per stream range Ditto Music publishes, 100,000 streams pay the rights holder about $300 to $500, before your distributor's cut.

How to find your numbers
- Monthly listeners: on your Spotify profile, or in Spotify for Artists under Audience.
- Followers: Spotify for Artists, Audience.
- Streams, last 28 days: Spotify for Artists, Audience, with the range set to last 28 days. Use streams, not listeners, for money: Spotify's pool is shared by streams.
Spotify defines monthly listeners as your total listeners in the last 28 days, including both active and programmed listeners. The window rolls every day, so the number falls when last month's listeners do not come back.
Why monthly listeners do not convert straight to money
Two artists with 10,000 monthly listeners can earn very different amounts. One may have listeners who play a song once on a playlist; the other may have fans who play the album every week. The calculator uses your own streams per monthly listener to turn an income goal into a listener count, so the answer fits your audience, not an average.
Rough payout by streams
| Spotify streams | Rough payout to the rights holder (USD) |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | $3 to $5 |
| 10,000 | $30 to $50 |
| 100,000 | $300 to $500 |
| 1,000,000 | $3,000 to $5,000 |
Range: Ditto Music, $0.003 to $0.005 per stream (third-party, checked 15 October 2026). Duetti's 2024 report puts Spotify at about $3.0 per 1,000 streams, the low end. This is what the master owner is paid: your distributor's cut, label share and splits come out after, and only songs that pass the 1,000-stream rule earn at all. For other platforms, use Streams to Money.
Followers and monthly listeners
Followers are people who chose to follow your profile. Spotify says listeners are 3 times more likely to stream an artist's music in the next 6 months after following. We found no sourced benchmark for the ratio of followers to monthly listeners, so the calculator shows it for you to track over time. More followers than monthly listeners usually means a quiet spell, not a problem.
What grows monthly listeners
New releases, playlists, press, shows and ads all bring listeners in; followers and saves are what bring them back next month. Plan releases so each one has time to be pitched and promoted: our release planner gives you the dates.
Questions artists ask
How many monthly listeners do you need to make money on Spotify?
It depends on how often each listener streams. At $0.003 to $0.005 per stream, $1,000 a month takes 200,000 to 333,334 streams. Divide by your streams per monthly listener to get listeners; the calculator does this with your numbers.
How much does Spotify pay for 1,000 monthly listeners?
Spotify pays by streams, not listeners. If 1,000 monthly listeners play you 3 times each, that is 3,000 streams, roughly $9 to $15 to the rights holder at Ditto Music's range.
How does Spotify calculate monthly listeners?
Spotify counts your total listeners in the last 28 days, including active and programmed listeners. Each person counts once however many times they play.
Why did my monthly listeners drop?
The 28-day window rolls daily, so listeners from a playlist or release that ended drop out. The number recovers when new or returning listeners play you.
How much does Spotify pay per stream?
Spotify says it does not pay a per-stream rate. Third-party averages put it around $0.003 to $0.005 per stream to the rights holder (Ditto Music).
Is it better to have more followers or monthly listeners?
Both matter for different reasons. Monthly listeners show your reach now; followers are people likely to come back. Spotify says followers are 3 times more likely to stream you in the next 6 months.
